Health

The environmental sanitation challenges highlighted under (sanitation) affects health and well-being. The indiscriminate dumping of refuse lead to chocked gutters thus breeding mosquitos which cause malaria and other diseases.

There are three main health facilities in the district - Shama Health Post, Benedict Hospital at Inchaban and VRA Hospital at Aboadze. Though the health facilities are not too far from Abuesi, the cost of transportation could be a challenge for some people in Abuesi.

Ghana has National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) which provide equitable access and financial coverage for basic health care services to Ghanaians. However, research indicates that rural areas are woefully under covered by the health scheme. Affordability of premium payments is a challenge, some people in Abuesi cannot afford the GHS30. 00 registration/renewal fees.

Even though Abuesi has a Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS), a primary health unit which is supposed to bring health care closer to the door steps of rural dwellers, many people do not patronise the service due to poor infrastructure, lack of medicine and unavailability of qualified health professionals.

The Abuesi Foundation will be supporting the leadership of CHPS in Abuesi to create awareness and prevention of health problems within the community.
